A DUI crash that snapped a telephone pole shut down Maywood Avenue for hours—just blocks from where a child was struck by a vehicle later that evening, authorities said.
The first crash occurred just after 2 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, when Malcolm Lee, 35, of Hackensack, was driving southbound on Maywood Avenue near Lenox Avenue in a 2006 Honda CR-V, Maywood Police Chief Terence Kenny said.

7-Year-Old Struck in Kingston Crosswalk, Driver Cited for Failure to Yield: Police
A 7-year-old child suffered minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street with his mother in a Kingston crosswalk.
The incident occurred around 8:50 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, on the Boulevard near Stewarts, said Lt. Patrick Buono of the Kingston Police.
According to Buono, a 2011 Chevy Silverado, driven by Nicholas Visbeck, age 33, of Kingston, struck the child crossing the street with his mother in the crosswalk.
